Abstract

A method of making flakes of grits includes grit moistening, thermal treatment thereof by infrared irradiation, cooling a half-finished product and rolling. The grit is moistened by means of submerging into water with a temperature of 20-90 °C and holding therein for 35-90 sec. The heat treatment is carried out in two stages. At the first stage the grit is effected by infrared irradiation with a wavelength of 3.35-3.50 µm and a flow density of 10-11 kW/m up to reaching the temperature of 100~110 °C on surface thereof, and at the second stage it is subjected to infrared irradiation with a wavelength of 0.96-1.0 µm and a flow density of 22-25 kW/m2 for 8-12 sec. Cooling of the half-finished is carried out by moistening thereof with sprayed water with an ambient temperature up to reaching the moisture of 18-20 %.
