The present invention relates to a connector assembly.

Usually, there are several PCI-E (Peripheral Component Interconnect Express) slots on the motherboard, such as PCI-E x1, PCI-E x4, PCI-E x8, and PCI-E x16 slots. Plug in with the corresponding PCI-E card to meet the expansion needs of users. However, if the user wants to insert a longer PCI-E card, such as a PCI-E x16 card, into a free, shorter PCI-E slot on the motherboard, such as a PCI-E x8 slot, it can be implemented. Referring to FIG. 1 and FIG. 2, a preferred embodiment of the connector assembly 1 of the present invention includes a PCI-E connector 10 and a fixing member 20 mountable to the PCI-E connector 10. In the present embodiment, the PCI-E connector 10 is a PCI-E x8 connector.

The PCI-E connector 10 is electrically connected to a motherboard 30. The PCI-E connector 10 is elongated and includes a top portion 12 and an end portion 13 that is perpendicular to the top portion 12. The top portion 12 defines a slot 125 extending through the end portion 13 along the length direction for latching a bottom of a corresponding PCI-E card (in this embodiment, a PCI-E x8 card) and The gold fingers of the corresponding PCI-E card are electrically connected. The end portion 13 is respectively provided with a bottom closed hook 133 on both sides of the slot 125. Each of the hooks 133 includes an L-shaped hook portion 134 that extends toward the opposite hook 133.

The fixing member 20 includes a receiving portion 21 and an elongated fixing piece 24 extending in the longitudinal direction from a bottom portion of the one end portion 211 of the receiving portion 21. A receiving groove 213 is defined in the top of the receiving portion 21 . One end of the receiving groove 213 penetrates into the end portion 211 of the receiving portion 21 . A buckle portion 216 protrudes outwardly from opposite sides of the end portion 211 of the receiving portion 21 .

Referring to FIG. 3, when the connector assembly 1 is assembled, the fixing member 20 is placed in the PCI-E. The two fastening portions 216 of the fixing member 20 are aligned with the two hooks 133 of the PCI-E connector 10, and the fixing pieces 24 of the fixing member 20 are aligned with the PCI-E connector 10. Pressing the fixing member 20 downwards, the two fastening portions 216 of the fixing member 20 are respectively engaged in the hook portions 134 of the two hooks 133 of the PCI-E connector 10 and abut the bottoms of the two hooks 133. In use, a PCI-E card (in this embodiment, a PCI-E x8 card) corresponding to the PCI-E connector 10 or a PCI shorter than the PCI-E connector 10 is to be used. When the -E card (such as a PCI-E x1 or PCI-E x4 card) is inserted into the connector assembly 1, the PCI-E card to be inserted can be directly inserted into the PCI-E connector 10.

Referring to FIG. 4 together, if a PCI-E card 40 (such as a PCI-E x16 card) having a length longer than the PCI-E connector 10 is to be inserted into the connector assembly 1, the PCI-E card 40 is used. The gold finger 45 is inserted into the slot 125 and the receiving slot 213 of the PCI-E connector 10 of the connector assembly 1 and the top of the fixing member 20, and the bottom of the gold finger 45 of the PCI-E card 40 is pressed downward. The fixing piece 20 of the fixing member 20 makes the fixing member 20 difficult to pick up. Therefore, the PCI-E card 40 is fixed to the connector assembly 1 , and the golden finger 45 of the PCI-E card 40 is received by the slot 125 of the PCI-E connector 10 and the receiving slot 213 of the fixing member 20 . Therefore, it is not easily damaged by collision or short circuit.

In other embodiments, the fixing piece 24 of the fixing member 20 can be omitted, and the fixing member 20 can be directly fixed to the end portion 13 of the PCI-E connector 10.

In other embodiments, the PCI-E connector 10 of the connector assembly 1 can be replaced with a PCI connector or other expansion card connector.

Claims (3)

A connector assembly includes an expansion card connector having a slot extending through an end of the expansion card connector, the connector assembly further including a fixed end of the expansion card connector a fixing member, the fixing member is provided with a receiving groove communicating with the slot of the expansion card connector, wherein the fixing member comprises a receiving portion and an elongated fixing extending from the bottom of the one end portion of the receiving portion along the length direction The receiving groove is disposed in the receiving portion and penetrates to an end portion of the receiving portion that is connected to the fixing piece. The connector assembly of claim 1, wherein the end of the expansion card connector is respectively provided with a bottom closed hook on each side of the slot, and each hook includes an opposite card. The hook-extending L-shaped hook portion protrudes outwardly from opposite sides of one end of the expansion card connector to a buckle portion that is inserted into a corresponding hook of the expansion card connector. The connector assembly of claim 1 or 2, wherein the expansion card connector is a PCI-E connector.
