Abstract
To provide an engine which can perform exhaust gas purification in all operation areas surely. In an exhaust gas purifier in which catalysts are interposed in an exhaust gas passage 5 of an engine 1, the catalysts include a reduction catalyst 8, which is arranged in the exhaust gas passage 5, and an oxidation catalyst 9, which is arranged in the exhaust passage 5 further on a downstream side than the reduction catalyst 8, a main secondary air supply path 12a is connected between the reduction and the oxidation catalysts 8 and 9 of the exhaust gas passage 5, and an auxiliary secondary air supply path 12b is connected to an upstream side of the reduction catalyst 8 to supply secondary air from the auxiliary secondary air supply path 12b when the engine is in a cold state.
