Abstract

It is an object of the present invention to provide a cerie abrasive, which will improve abrasion speed substantially while inhibiting generation, of abrasion scratches. The present invention relates to a ceric abrasive, characterized in that a cerium oxide content with respect to a total rare earth oxide (i.e. TREO) is 95 mass% or more, and that a value of particle diameter (D50) of a cumulative volume 50% as viewed from a smaller particle diameter and assessed via a laser diffraction and diffraction method is in the range of 1.3 to 4.0 μm. it is preferable to the eerie abrasive of the present invention if a half maximum full-width of a maximum peak in the cerium oxide assessed via an X-ray diffraction analysis based on a Cu-Kα 1 is in the range of 0.1 to 0.5 DEG in terms of 2θ.
