Abstract
To provide an IT mode liquid crystal display device easy in the generation of a high electric field. The liquid crystal display device includes first and second transparent substrates arranged oppositely, a lower transparent electrode formed on each pixel region of the first substrate, an inter-electrode insulation film formed on the lower transparent electrode, an upper transparent electrode formed upward of a partial region of the lower transparent electrode through the inter-electrode insulation film, a first horizontal alignment layer formed on the inter-electrode insulation film by covering the upper transparent electrode, a second horizontal alignment layer formed on the second substrate, a twisted nematic liquid crystal layer sandwiched by the first and second horizontal alignment layer and an indicating torsion of about 90 degrees in a thickness direction in an off state, and first and second polarizing plates arranged outside of the first and second transparent substrates.
