Abstract

A privacy apparatus for liquid crystal display is provided. The privacy apparatus consists of a light source, a first bi-directional chromo polarizer, a liquid crystal layer, at least a retardation plate, and a second bi-directional chromo polarizer. This apparatus incorporates the retardation plate and the liquid crystal layer to increase the phase shift of the thickness direction and keep the contrast of the center viewing angle of a LCD unchanged. In watching the LCD image from two lateral viewing angles, the dark state of the LCD greatly increases so as to greatly reduce the contrast, making the LCD image unclearly visible to watchers viewing from lateral sides.
