Abstract
This invention provides a method for hydrogenating a polymer containing conjugated diene units and a catalyst composition used of the same. The method of this invention comprises reacting a conjugated diene units contained polymer dissolved in an inert organic solvent or an inert organic solvent containing a portion of polar compounds such as ether or amine, with hydrogen gas in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst composition, so as to selectively hydrogenate unsaturated double bonds of the conjugated diene units in the polymer containing the conjugated diene units. The hydrogenation catalyst composition of this invention comprises (a) a bis(cyclopentadienyl group, indene group, fluorrylgroup or the derivatives thereof) titanium compound or a mixture thereof; (b) a compound represented by formula (II) or formula (III) or a mixture thereof. The hydrogenation catalyst compound (b) of this invention at least contains a compound represented by formula (II) or formula (III) or a mixture thereof: 095107672-p01.bmp where formula (II) is a chain structure, formula (III) is a cyclic structure, R is selected from the group consisting of C1-C12 alkyl group, alkenyl group, amino group, and halo group, each of X .sup.1, X .sup.2 is selected from the group consisting of C1-C12 alkyl group, C1-C12 alkylene oxide group, aryl group, alkylaryl group, and carbonyl group, n> 1, m > 2; and (c) an organo metalic compound.
