Abstract
The invention uses electrolysis and diffusion method to make a magnesium-lithium alloy in atmospheric environment. This invention uses graphite material as an anode and uses a plate material of a magnesium-aluminum-zinc alloy as a cathode and the electrolytic solution whose composition of weight ratio is 45wt% lithium chloride - 55wt% potassium chloride. The benefits of this invention involve being capable of preparing for a magnesium-lithium alloy containing high lithium content in atmospheric environment and without a glove box or a vacuum-smelting furnace. Besides, the product of this method is in a shape of plate and a follow-up procedure is a simple rolling, and then the product can become a rolled strip of magnesium-lithium-aluminum-zinc alloy with a fine microstructure. The characteristic of the invention is that the pure lithium not only deposits at the cathode but also diffuses into the cathode owing to high temperature and finally forms a magnesium-lithium alloy. The equipment of the invention is an electrolytic tank whose structure is simple and installs easily.
