Abstract

A process for producing synthetic fiber from a melt blend based on fiber-forming matrix polymers and fiber produced by the process, which process comprises admixing the fiber-forming matrix polymer with one or more specifically functionalized (meth)acrylate polymers. This specifically functionalized amorphous additive polymer is a copolymer or terpolymer, comprises alkoxy, sulfoalkyl and/or sulfone groups and has the composition more precisely specified in the description. It is incompatible with the fiber-forming matrix polymer and is used in an amount from 0.05% by weight to 10% by weight, based on the total weight of the fiber-forming matrix polymer and additive polymer incompatible therewith, to achieve improved dyeability with disperse or cationic dyes. The inventive fiber, preferably composed of polyester and more preferably composed of PET, is further processed into multifilament yarn, staple fiber yarn or stretch-broken yarn which each possess improved dyeability.
