Abstract

A drum type washing machine includes a high temperature washing cycle for performing a washing with washing water heated above a first predetermined temperature by controlling heating unit (14). In the high temperature washing cycle, controller (43) sets a rate of an agitating time in a first agitating operation to be lower than a rate of an agitating time in a second agitating operation, the first agitating operation for rotating rotary drum (24) until a temperature of the heated washing water reaches a second predetermined temperature T2 lower than the first predetermined temperature T1 and the second agitating operation for rotating rotary drum (24) until the temperature of the washing water increases from the second predetermined temperature T2 to the first predetermined temperature T1.
