Abstract

A telephonist (T) working on the subscriber exchange (4) activates a code for the apparatus (9) being called when an incoming call for a subscriber apparatus is received via a reference-activated connection. The code is used within the reference system (7) to determine whether the apparatus being called is connected to the data network (6) or not. Depending on reference system-related information, the subscriber exchange can activate a connection to the apparatus being called. The telecommunication network (2) has a number of apparatus connected to it and a calling apparatus (3) can initiate and set up a connection to a called apparatus, a telecommunication network-related subscriber exchange, and a reference system connected to this exchange. The reference system is connected to the subscriber exchange and data network.
