Abstract
A wire-type mechanism is used to transfer force from the gear lever (4) to the gearbox. A guard (9) fitted to the lever restricts the amount of manoeuvring force that can be transferred to the gearbox. The lever is split into two separate top and bottom sections (10, 11) joined together by a splice fitting, which allows pivoting of the two sections relative to each other above a certain level of force applied to the lever. - TECHNOLOGY FOCUS - MECHANICAL ENGINEERING - The splice fitting comprises a screw spring.
