Abstract

The packaged food is placed in a tray with a lid and containing frozen coolant in a special hollow region in the tray base. A container for initially cooling warm portions of food (5) in sealed packaging (4) prior to freezing, in order to able to store the food for a long period of time, comprises a tray (1) with a base (2) and side walls (3, 3') forming an open cavity in the top side which is larger than the volume of the packaging. A hollow region (6) is present in at least the base part of the tray for receiving a coolant (7) which can be frozen prior to adding the packaging in order to carry out the pre-cooling of the food.
