Abstract
The system for indirectly heating at least one building includes a region (12) where heat is generated, at least one primary heat exchanger (13) for a heat-carrying medium, which extends through the heat-generating region, a device for circulating the heat-carrying medium through the primary heat exchanger, and a secondary heat exchanger for transferring heat from the heat-carrying medium to a heating system. The heat-generating region comprises organic material (10) that emits heat as it decays, the heat being captured by the heat-carrying medium. Preferably the organic material comprises at least 80 % bark, wood chips or sawdust, or a combination. - Also claimed are: (a) a heating process using the above system, in which the heat-generating region is filled with the organic material and this material is encouraged to decay; and (b) the use of at least partially decayed organic material to generate heat in the above system.
