Abstract

An apparatus for feeding and refining lignocellulosic fibre material in a pulp manufacturing process includes a chip preheater (10) which is connected to the inlet of a screw feeder (11), and a refiner (16) which is connected to the outlet of said screw feeder. The screw feeder (11) includes a screw (12) whose rotational speed can be varied and which has a stem (15). The stem (15) extends right up to the refiner (16) and there widens conically in the feed direction. The refiner inlet (19) is formed by a compression zone (14) between the screw housing (13) and the screw stem (15).
