Abstract

The preparation of products based on lignocellulose fibres that have been split into long and short fibre fractions, comprises treating each fibre fraction separately with chemicals. Preferably different chemicals are used and at least one fraction is treated with an enzyme (preferably lipase). An alkali (preferably sodium hydroxide) is used to treat the lipase-treated fraction(s). Other suitable treatment chemicals include phosphates, surfactant wetting agents and chelating agents (eg. EDTA or DTPA).
