Abstract
In the rotating high voltage electric machine, the windings (6) for the stator are drawn through slots (5) in the stator. At least one winding (6) has an insulation of at least two semiconducting layers (32,34) where each forms an equipotential surface, with a solid insulation (33) between them. Radial support members (12) are in contact with the windings in the slot. One layer (32) can be of cross linked polyethylene (XLPE). The support (12) is of a rigid material such as epoxy, a glass fibre laminate or steel. Also claimed is a method for mfg. the machine, where a cable is drawn through slots in the stator to form stator windings. A number of radial recesses are in at least one wall in at least some of the slots. The cable supports are within the recesses before the cable is wound in the slots, and a force is applied to the supports to press them against the positioned cable.
