Abstract

A process for making self-supporting thermal insulation wall panels by bonding two or more welded together sections of rigid thermal insulation material (preferably polyurethane foam) to form sheet panels provided with cover sheets (10) on the outer surfaces of the panel is claimed. The process comprises: (i) welding the opposing edge sections of the sections together which are provided with grooves (6) that have open top sides and extend parallel to the flat side of the section ; (ii) fitting the edge sections together using preferably metal hooks (4) comprising one leg (5) inserted into the groove, waist section (7) and second leg (8) that follows the outside of the edge section ; and (iii) applying the cover sheets to the flat sides of the sections so that they extend over the joints between the sections and conventional fasteners such as screws or rivets which are used to secure the cover sheets and sections together. Also claimed are the edge fittings used to make the panels in the above process.
