Abstract

The web (2) is of concrete alone with embedded reinforcements (5,6). The flanges (3,4) are of concrete with steel plates (7,8) which run the length of the beam. The steel plates limit one face of the flange and have at least a part stuck in the concrete of the web. This makes the steel plates and the reinforcements work together. The plates limit the averted edges (9,10) of the flange and at least partially forms both edge faces (7,8,11,12) of the flange. USE/ADVANTAGE - For construction. Sheet metal arms allow for reduced height and is easier for sections of beams to be welded to one another.
