Abstract

In a method and an arrangement for unstacking timber, in which layers 3 of timber are released one at a time from an inclined pack of timber 2 and transferred to a collecting conveyor 8, the collecting conveyor 8 is controlled so that its rate matches the rate of the timber layer 3. The collecting conveyor 8 preferably comprises top and bottom conveyor belts 9, 10, the top conveyor belt 9 being resiliently pressed against the pieces of timber 5 between the belts 9, 10. In conventional systems the pieces of timber removed from a pack of timber are lifted by means of a log conveyor to a layer on the succeeding timber conveyor for further handling. This type of log conveyor involves disadvantages, which are eliminated by the invention, according to which the log conveyor is omitted. <IMAGE>
