Abstract

A plasmid DNA construct comprising essentially DNA sequences endogenous to mammalian cells excluding DNA sequences of viral origin including the gene encoding a mammalian beta -nerve growth factor ( beta -NGF) or an active polypeptide fragment thereof, and DNA sequences necessary for replicating the plasmid in a bacterial cell; and a method for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases.
