Abstract

A thread brake (B) for controlling the tension of a running thread (Y) has at least one friction element (R) which acts on the thread and which is arranged on a holding device (H) in stationary carrier (T). The holding device (H) of the friction element (R) moves against a reference force in the carrier (T) approximately in the direction of motion of the thread (Y) under the force of reaction between the friction acting on the running thread. A signal-generating position sensor (S) for the holding device is arranged between the holding device (H) and the carrier (T). The thread brake so obtained is of extremely simple design and fulfils the additional function of a movement indicator or malfunction indicator for the thread run.
