Abstract
The invention relates to a method and an arrangement for tightening braided packings in place in order to seal off a gap between a rotating machine component (1) and a non-rotating machine component (2). A sleeve-shaped tightening part (4) is arranged against packing rings (3) arranged in the gap and is subjected to an axial force. In the process, the pressure surface of the tightening part presses against the radial surface of the outermost packing ring (3) and tightens the packing rings axially in place. In order to make tightening reliable and simple, the axial force to which the tightening part (4) is to be subjected is produced by means of a hydraulic pressure. For this purpose, the pressure surface (6) of the tightening part (4) is a surface with a radially outward bevel. <IMAGE>
