Abstract

The water turbine (1) and the generator (2) are connected to each other by a shaft (3). The thus combined unit is supported by a floating bridge (4) located in a flowing water course so that the turbine is within a whirlpool (7). The generator feeds electricity to a user point (9) via a cable (8). The floating bridge has to be maintained above the whirlpool, and this is done by means of land-fastened lines (10, 11) or by a line (12) fastened to the bed of the water course. Pref. also the bridge should be attached to the bottom or to the water edge so that it can follow variations in water level. A further option is for the bridge to be supported yby columns arranged outside the central part of the whirlpool where the turbine wheel works. The whirlpool is created by a first unit located upstream of the turbine which conducts water flow (6) to a second unit (14) so shaped that it turns the current around the turbine wheel, causing the water to flow upwards.
