Abstract

A glazing panel suitable for use as part of an alarm system comprises at least two sheets of glass 2, 4 bonded together into a laminate by intervening adhesive material 5. At least one glass sheet bears an electrically conductive coating 3 extending between at least two electrodes such as 8. Surface layers of at least two of the glass sheets are unequally stressed so that on breakage, one glass sheet is caused to break into smaller fragments than another thereby to impart a curvature to the laminate. The conductive coating 3 is applied to a sheet face which will become convex on such breakage. Such a glazing panel may be connected into an electrical circuit which includes means for monitoring the resistance of the coating and for sounding an alarm if that resistance changes due for example to breakage of the glass sheet bearing the coating. Reliability of an alarm signal is promoted because the curvature of the panel on breakage ensures separation of the coating at a fracture line. <IMAGE>
