Abstract

The invention relates to the machining of metals by cutting. The grinding wheel subject of the invention, which is made in the shape of a disc having a working surface placed along its periphery 2 and whose generating line is parallel to the axis of rotation 3 of the grinding wheel 1, a cylindrical part 4 intended to be clamped between attachment flanges and located at the central part of the grinding wheel 1, and faces 5, 6 whose planes are located at an angle alpha with respect to the axis of rotation 3 of the grinding wheel 1, is characterised in that the said central part 4 of the grinding wheel, is made so as to project from either side of the grinding wheel 1, in that its axis coincides with the axis of rotation 3 of the grinding wheel 1 and in that its faces 7, 9 are placed essentially perpendicular to the axis of rotation 3 of the grinding wheel 1. The grinding wheel concerned can be used in particular for machining blanks (slabs, half-finished coarse-laminated products called <<blooms>>) and of finished laminated products (round bars, square bars, hexagonal bars, tubes, sectional profiled bars) in the steel industry. <IMAGE>
