Abstract
Plate heat exchanger for heating or cooling liquid substances which comprises a number of identical thin profiled heat exchanger plates which are joined together while maintaining a defined spacing, resulting in the formation of flow ducts between adjacent plates, which ducts change in the direction of flow and have a preferably rectangular cross-section. The purpose is to increase the effective proportion of the total heat transfer surface area and to improve the ratio of the heat transfer capacity to the pumping capacity. To this end there were provided, on preferably square heat transfer plates, passage holes whose longitudinal extent is a multiple of the mean height of the passage holes and essentially corresponds to the flow width, confronting passage holes being assigned to the same material stream. The heat exchanger plates are rotated, with respect to those adjacent thereto, by 180 DEG about the axis perpendicular to the plane of the plate, so that flow ducts are formed by means of the defined spacings, through which the material in question can flow successively or in parallel, the flow directions in adjacent ducts crossing at angles of preferably 90 DEG .
