Abstract
In a device for controlling a locking means (14) in a vehicle safety belt having an extractable band which causes a rotatably mounted shaft (10) to rotate during the extraction, the rotatably mounted shaft is provided with indications (21) arranged to be read by a reading head (23) during the rotation of the shaft (10). The reading head is connected to an electric circuit (18) which on the basis of signals from the reading head determine the rotary speed and/or the acceleration of the shaft and activates the locking means, when the preset limit values for the rotary speed and acceleration of the shaft are exeeded. This will provide a very accurate control of the locking means depending on the rapidity of extraction of the band. The rotatably mounted shaft (10) can also be provided with marks (24) for synchronization of the engagement movement of the locking means (14) with the movement of the teeth (13) provided on the shaft or on a disk (12) rigidly attached to the shaft. These marks are read by a reading head (26) which is connected to the electric circuit (18). This will eliminate the risk that the locking means (14) during the beginning of the engagement hits a tooth (13) and bounces outwardly. This synchronization makes the operation of the locking means faster and more reliable.
