Abstract
The binder composition described contains an organic component consisting of a co-condensate of alkali-treated chlorolignin, phenol and formaldehyde as well as an inorganic component consisting of an aqueous solution of alkali-metal silicate. The weight ratio of organic component to inorganic component is 99:1 to 2:1 (5:1 to 3:1). The inorganic component consists of a sodium-silicate solution and/or potassium-silicate solution and has a molar ratio of SiO2:Me2O within the range of 1:1 to 4:1 (1.5:1 to 2.5:1) and an SiO2 content of 20 to 35% by weight (30 to 35% by weight). In the organic component, the weight ratio of phenol to chlorolignin is 99:1 to 20:80 (70:30 to 45:55) and the weight ratio of formaldehyde to phenol/chlorolignin is 1:5 to 1:1.
