Abstract

The invention relates to a flow cell 12 for the study of individual particles in a liquid suspension and provided with a particle detection opening 14 through which the particle suspension is taken. The particle detection opening 14 is illuminated by means of a beam 36 and particles passing though the opening 14 transmit optical signals. The particle detection opening 14 is connected by liquid to an upstream duct 16 formed by an end 20 of the flow cell 12. The flow cell 12 is provided with an essentially spherical element 12 operating as a monolithic construction and there is an optical illumination shaft 40 along which the beam is to be received and at least one light-collecting optical shaft 40 along which the optical signals are collected. The optical shafts are aligned and intersect the said opening 14 and the spherical element 12 lies essentially radially symmetrically with regard to the optical shafts. <IMAGE>
