Abstract

Asphalt cement is made by the mixing together of stoney material and asphalt emulsion and subsequent treatment with an emulsion breaking fluid to break the asphalt emulsion and to precipitate the asphalt on to the stoney material. A basic solution, especially an aqueous solution of calcium hydroxide is used as an emulsion breaking fluid for cationic asphalt emulsions. The emulsion breaking fluid can be spread over the prepared asphalt cement.
