Abstract

By means of a press-plate having high and low areas, an assembly comprising a core of phenolic resin impregnated kraft paper sheet(s) having superimposed thereon transparent noble resin impregnated paper sheet(s) is consolidated by heat and pressure which results in those portions of the core corresponding to the high areas of the press-plate being consolidated to a greater degree and darker colour than the other portions. This colour variation when viewed through the surfacing sheets contributes to the decorative appearance of the laminates.
