Abstract
1413761 Polyurethanes DOW CHEMICAL CO 22 Jan 1973 [28 Jan 1972] 3116/73 Heading C3R Rigid, rapid-setting, solid polyurethane compositions are prepared by reacting a mixture comprising: (A) an anionic or amineinitiated polyol having an OH equivalent weight of 50 to less than 250; (B) an organic polyisocyanate containing an aromatic ring and (C) a liquid having a b.p. above 150‹ C. which is (i) an optionally hydroxyl-containing polyoxyalkylene compound, (ii) an ester-modified polyoxyalkylene compound (iii) an organic phosphate, phosphite or phosphonate, (iv) a cyclic polyether, (v) an aromatic compound, (vi) a partially hydrogenated aromatic compound, (vii) an organic carbonate, (viii) a chlorinated aliphatic compound, (ix) a cyclic sulphone or (x) an ester of a carboxylic acid, or a eutectic mixture of two or more compounds from these classes which mixture has a b.p. above 150‹ C., components (A) and (B) being present such that the NCO : OH ratio is 0À8 to 1À5 and component (C) being employed in an amount of 5 to 60% of the combined weight of (A), (B) and (C). In examples component (A) is a propylene oxide adduct of aminoethylethanolamine or diethylene triamine or is triethanolamine, component (B) is toluene diisocyanate, a dimerized diphenylmethane diisocyanate, polymethylene polyphenylisocyanate or a prepolymer from toluene diisocyanate and a glycerol/ propylene oxide adduct and component (C) is trichlorobenzene, a glycerol/propylene oxide reaction product, dioctylphthalate, a mixture of aromatic compounds containing polyethylbenzenes, diphenylether, a liquid chlorinated paraffin or ethylacetoacetate. Numerous other examples of component (C) are listed. Articles may be prepared by casting the polyurethane compositions.
