Abstract

An adjustable luminous flux lamp (1) suitable for dental surgeries comprises a sensor switch (6a, 6b) on the handle thereof and an electronic circuit (16) connected to the sensor switch (6a, 6b) for continuously adjusting the lamp luminous flux between maximum and minimum values and alternatively switching off and on the lamp. With the lamp (1) off and main switch (19) on, a short duration pulse on a sensor switch lights the lamp at full intensity. A longer pulse caused by resting a finger on one of the sensors causes a cyclic decrease and increase in lamp intensity under the control of integrated circuit (21) which operates as a mains cycle counter causing triggering delay of triac (22). Removal of the finger causes the lamp to remain at the required intensity level until it is extinguished by another short duration pulse, a further short duration pulse switching the lamp on again at its previous intensity. <IMAGE>
