Abstract

A heater for controllably heating liquid in a container comprises a substantially flat, elongated insulating pad 15 in which an electrical heating device 16 is embedded in such a way as to heat the end portions 18 of the pad but not the central portion 19, a first thermostat 24 electrically connected to the heating device located in the non-heated section 19 to control the temperature of the container at its interface with the pad and a second thermostat 22 electrically connected to the heating device located in the heated section 18 to control the temperature of the heated section. The pad is preferably a flexible elastomer e.g. silicone rubber and the container e.g. a sterilizer is stood on its upper surface. The pad is supported on a plastics support member provided with a raised rim which restrains both the pad and the liquid container. <IMAGE>
