Abstract

A method for producing a mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen gas which mixture is substantially free of sulphur and dust. The gas mixture is produced from coal which is injected into a metal bath in a stoichiometric excess relative to the oxygen, in the form of oxidic compounds, contained in the metal bath. Oxygen and a coolant are also injected into the bath.
