Abstract

The glass parts comprise oxidic glass and have at least one surface layer which is at most 300 ANGSTROM thick and has a composition with a substoichiometric amount of network-forming and/or network-modifying ions compared with the oxygen ions. The film used to join the glass parts comprises polyethylene, has a thickness of from 5 to 100 mu m and has been modified on the surface by treatment with an oxidant. The glass parts are bonded to one another by means of the film at a temperature between 125 to 250 DEG C and a pressure of at least 5 g/mm<2>. The process can be used for the production of cells for display devices or for spectrophotometry and for the production of sample holders for microscopy. The resultant bond between the glass parts is chemically and thermally resistant.
