1534755 Tennis rackets J SEPTIER 11 Feb 1976 [13 Feb 1975] 05410/76 Heading A6D A method of making a net for a tennis, squash or like racket comprises the steps of providing a board with projections arranged in a peripheral pattern approximating to the outline of the racket, extending a length of stringing around a first opposed set of projections to provide the transverse strings of the net, extending a second length of string- ing around a second set of opposed projections to produce the lengthwise strings of the net which are interwoven with the transverse strings, then securing portions of adjacent strings to form loops around the projections and then removing the net so formed from the projections, see Figs. 1..4 (not shown) for stringing details. The frame of the racket has apertures to receive the loops which may be retained therein by a flexible retaining member secured to tensioning means mounted in the handle. That part of the net adjacent the handle may be provided with looped tails, see Fig 6 (not shown), which loops B', Fig. 10, are engaged by spools 127, 128 vertically adjustable with handle for tensioning purposes by a nut 125, 126, 127 engaged by a knurled nut 123. The retaining means and in loops 112, 113 engaged by a further spool 117 having screw-threaded engagement with a rod 119, 120 for tensioning purposes. In a modification the net 239, Fig. 21 consists of horizontal strings 243 and an oblique arrangement of strings 245, 246; the the net being secured by straps 210, 218 and tensioned by a bonding cable 241 connected to a tightener [251], see Figs. 22-25 (not shown). The net may be made of catgut or nylon and have each loop protected by a sleeve; the racket frame being made of wood, metal or reinforced plastics. A window may be disposed in the handle adjacent to a scale whereby the degree of tensioning may be readily ascertained, see Fig. 34 (not shown).
