Abstract

The present invention relates to an electronic door lock operating assembly (11), comprising a lock operating device (27) and a mounting plate (9) for attaching the lock operating device (27) to a door (1), said mounting plate (9) being configured to be secured to the door (1 ) and interact with a base plate (31 ) of the lock operating device (27).Each of the base plate (31) and the mounting plate (9) has an engagement portion (33, 15), wherein said engagement portions (33, 15) are configured to mechanically engage each other so as to rotationally lock said base plate (31) to the mounting plate (9). The electronic door lock operating assembly (11 ) further comprises a retaining element adapted to maintain the engagement portions (33, 15) engaged to each other.

Description

ELECTRONIC DOOR LOCK OPERATING ASSEMBLY FOR RETROFITTING A LOCK Technical Field of the Invention The present invention relates to an electronic door lock operating assembly, comprising a lock operating device and a mounting plate for attaching the lock operating device to a door, said mounting plate being configured to be secured to the door and interact with a base plate of the lock operating device.
Background Art Retrofittable lock operating devices for conventional deadbolt locks are widely used today. Such a lock operating device may be mounted on the inside of a door for locking and unlocking an existing deadbolt lock.
Typically, the lock operating device has a base plate that is screwed to a mounting plate by means of a plurality of screws.
However, mounting a door lock operating device this way is cumbersome and time consuming.
Summary of the Invention It is an object of the present invention to provide an improved electronic door lock operating assembly that provides for easy mounting.
These and other objects that will be apparent from the following summary and description are achieved by an electronic door lock operating assembly according to the appended claims.
According to an aspect of the present disclosure there is provided an electronic door lock operating assembly, comprising a lock operating device and a mounting plate for attaching the lock operating device to a door, said mounting plate being configured to be secured to the door and interact with a base plate of the lock operating device, wherein each of said base plate and said mounting plate has an engagement portion, each of said engagement portions comprises at least two engagement projections, wherein said engagement portions are configured to mechanically engage each other so as to rotationally lock said base plate to said mounting plate and the electronic door lock operating assembly further comprises a retaining element adapted to maintain said engagement portions engaged to each other.
The connection portions are configured to prevent relative rotation between the mounting plate and the retaining element and is thus configured to maintain the mounting plate and the retaining element rotationally locked to each other. The retaining element thus maintains the connection portions in an engaged state. The connection portions may be complementary in shape to rotationally lock the device to the mounting plate as soon as the connection portion of the lock operating device is received by the connection portion of the mounting plate.
The engagement portions are configured for mounting of said base plate in at least two different positions relative to said mounting plate when said mounting plate is secured to a door.
The retaining element, which can be positioned without the use of tools, enables very easy and fast mounting of the electronic door lock operating device. Hence, if the mounting plate has been pre-mounted, tool free mounting of the device is enabled. The connection portions and the retaining element together form a robust attachment of the door lock operating device to a door.
Furthermore, the engagement portions allow the lock operating device to be mounted in different positions, which provides for a flexible solution.
According to one embodiment said lock operating device comprises an elongated housing.
According to one embodiment said engagement portions are configured for mounting of said base plate in at least four different positions relative to said mounting plate.
According to one embodiment the retaining element is resilient.
According to one embodiment the resilient retaining element is ringshaped.
According to one embodiment the resilient retaining element is an open retaining ring.
According to one embodiment the engagement portion of said mounting plate comprises at least two engagement projections that, when the mounting plate is secured to a door, project in a direction away from said door, and the engagement portion of said base plate comprises at least two engagement projections that, when said base plate is attached to a door, project in a direction toward said door.
According to one embodiment said at least two engagement projections of each of said engagement portions are L-shaped, as seen in a cross section.
According to one embodiment the electronic door lock operating assembly further comprises a retaining element cover that is configured to cover the retaining element in a mounted position. This embodiment has the advantage that the connection portions are not visible when the retaining element cover is mounted. The retaining element cover thus provides for an attractive overall impression.
According to one embodiment the retaining element cover is attached to the retaining element wherein the retaining element and the retaining element cover are configured to be mounted simultaneously. This has the advantage that mounting may be carried out in a very fast manner.
These and other aspects of the invention will be apparent from and elucidated with reference to the claims and the embodiments described hereinafter.

Fig. 1 is a perspective view and illustrates a mounting plate of an electronic door lock operating assembly according to the present disclosure.

Figs. 3a-b are perspective views and illustrate mounting of a retaining element of the electronic door lock operating assembly in Fig. 2.
Fig. 3c is a perspective view and shows the door lock operating assembly in Fig. 2 in a mounted state.
Fig. 4 is a perspective view and illustrates a retaining element cover. Fig. 5 is a perspective view and shows a door provided with the door lock operating assembly in Fig. 2.
Fig. 6 is a partly sectioned perspective view of the door lock operating assembly in Fig. 2 in a mounted state.
Fig. 7a shows the door lock operating assembly in Fig. 2 mounted in a first vertical position.

Detailed Description of Preferred Embodiments of the Invention Fig. 1 shows the inside of a door 1 provided with a conventional door lock 3. The door lock 3 comprises a tail piece 5 and a lock bolt (not shown). The lock bolt may be manually operated by means of a turn knob 7.
The lower part of Fig. 1 shows a mounting plate 9 of an electronic door lock operating assembly 11 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. The mounting plate 9 comprises a bottom plate 13 for attachment of the mounting plate 9 to a door 1 and a connection portion 15 for receiving an electric door lock device of the electronic door lock operating assembly 11. The mounting plate 9 is configured to be attached to a door 1 by means of screws 17, as illustrated in Fig. 1, and to replace an existing mounting plate (not shown) of an existing door lock 3. When attached to the door 1 the bottom plate 13 abuts the door 1, as illustrated in Fig. 2a.
The mounting plate 9 is configured to receive the electronic lock operating device in four different positions. To this end the engagement portion 15 of the mounting plate 9 comprises four pairs of engagement projections 19a, 19b, 21a, 21b, 23a, 23b, 25a, 25b extending from the bottom plate 13 and evenly spaced around the periphery thereof.
Now referring to Figs. 2a-b, the electronic door lock operating assembly 11 comprises the mounting plate 9 and a lock operating device 27.
The lock operating device 27 comprises an elongated housing 29, a turn knob 30 and an elongated base plate 31 (Fig. 2b) to which the housing 29 is connected. The base plate 31 comprises a connection portion 33 configured to interact with the connection portion 15 of the mounting plate 9. To this end the connection portion 33 of the base plate 31 comprises two engagement projections 35, 37 extending from the base plate 31. The lock operating device 27 further comprises a lock operating mechanism (not shown), which is accomodated in the housing 29, for turning the tail piece 5 of the door lock 3.
Each engagement projection 35, 37 of the base plate 31 is arranged so as to be received between the engagement projections of a pair of engement projections 19a, 19b, 21a, 21b, 23a, 23b, 25a, 25b of the mounting plate 9.
As best illustrated in Fig. 6, each engagement projection of the mounting plate 9 is L-shaped, as seen in a cross section.
The electronic lock operating device 27 may be mounted in a first vertical position, as illustrated by arrow A in Fig. 2a. When the electronic lock operating device 27 is mounted in this position the first engagement projection 35 of the base plate 31 is received by the first pair of engagement projections 19a, 19b of the mounting plate 9 and the second engagement projection 37 of the base plate 31 is received by the third pair of engagement projections 23a, 23b of the mounting plate 9.
Now referring to Figs. 3a-b the electronic door lock operating assembly 11 further comprises a retaining element, in the form of an open resilient retaining ring 39, adapted to, in a mounted position, maintain the engagement portion 15 of the mounting plate 9 and the engagement portion 33 of the base plate 31 engaged to each other in order to lock the door lock operating device 27 to the mounting plate 9. Upon assembly the retaining ring 39 is inserted between the engagement projections 19a, 19b, 23a, 23b of the mounting plate 9 and the engagement projections 35, 37 of the base plate 31, as illustrated by arrows in Figs. 3a-b.
In Figs. 3a-b, which shows an intermediate state of mounting of the assembly, the base plate 31 is rotationally locked to the mounting plate 9.
Fig. 3c illustrates the assembly 11 in a mounted state. Parts of the lock operating device 27 has been removed to illustrate the mounting interface between the base plate 31 and the mounting plate 9. In the mounted state the retaining ring 39 locks the lock operating device 27 to the mounting plate 9. The retaining element 39 thus forms a locking element in the form of a locking ring.
Now referring to Fig. 4, in this embodiment, the assembly further comprises a retaining element cover, in the form of a plastic cover 41, that is mounted when the lock operating device 27 has been mounted to the door 1, as illustrated by arrow B in Fig. 4. The retaining element cover 41 is configured to cover connection portions in order to provide a uniform and attractive overall impression. The retaining element cover 41 is thus configured to cover the connection interface of the assembly 11, i.e. the connection portion 15 of the mounting plate 9, the connection portion 33 of the base plate 31 and the retaining ring 39, in the mounted position. The cover 41 may be mounted from the front of the device 17, as illustrated by arrow B in Fig. 5, or from below.
The assembly 11 thus comprises at least three separate parts, namely a mounting plate 9, a lock operating device 27 provided with a base plate 31, and a retaining element 39. In an unassembled state, the retaining element 39 is thus separated from each of the mounting plate 9 and the lock operating device 27.
Optionally, the assembly 11 may further comprise a fourth part in the form of a retaining element cover 41.
Fig. 5 shows a door provided with a door lock operating assembly according to the present disclosure.
With reference to Fig. 6, which shows the door lock operating assembly 11 in a mounted state, the function of the connection between the lock operating device 27 and the mounting plate 9 will be further described hereinafter. As described hereinbefore, the retaining element 39 is disposed between the engagement projections 19a, 19b, 21a, 21b, 23a, 23b, 25a, 25b of the mounting plate 9 and the engagement projections 35, 37 of the base plate 31 of the lock operating device 27. The engagement projections 19a, 19b, 21a, 21b, 23a, 23b, 25a, 25b of the mounting plate 9 prevents the base plate 31 to rotate and the retaining ring 39 prevents the base plate 31 from being removed in a direction away from the door 1.
The lock operating device 27 may be mounted in four different positions, as illustrated in Figs. 7a-d. In Fig. 7a the lock operating device 27 is mounted in a first vertical position. In Fig. 7b the lock operating device 27 is mounted in a first horizontal position. In Fig. 7c the lock operating device 27 is mounted in a second vertical position. In Fig. 7b the lock operating device 27 is mounted in a second horizontal position.
It is realized by a person skilled in the art that features from various embodiments disclosed herein may be combined with one another in order to provide further alternative embodiments.

Claims (10)

1. An electronic door lock operating assembly (11 ), comprising a lock operating device (27) and a mounting plate (9) for attaching the lock operating device (27) to a door (1), said mounting plate (9) being configured to be secured to the door (1) and interact with a base plate (31) of the lock operating device (27), characterized in that each of said base plate (31 ) and said mounting plate (9) has an engagement portion (33, 15), each of said engagement portions (33, 15) comprising at least two engagement projections (35, 37, 19a, 19b, 21a, 21b, 23a, 23b, 25a, 25b), wherein said engagement portions (33, 15) are configured to mechanically engage each other so as to rotationally lock said base plate (31) to said mounting plate (9), in that said engagement portions (33, 15) are configured for mounting of said base plate (31 ) in at least two different positions relative to said mounting plate (9) when said mounting plate (9) is secured to a door (1), and in that the electronic door lock operating assembly (11) further comprises a retaining element (39) adapted to maintain said engagement portions (33, 15) engaged to each other.
2. Electronic door lock operating assembly (11) according to claim 1, wherein said lock operating device (27) comprises an elongated housing (29).
3. Electronic door lock operating assembly (11) according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein said engagement portions (33, 15) are configured for mounting of said base plate (31) in at least four different positions relative to said mounting plate (9).
4. Electronic door lock operating assembly (11 ) according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the retaining element (39) is resilient.
5. Electronic door lock operating assembly (11) according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the resilient retaining element (39) is ring-shaped.
6. Electronic door lock operating assembly (11) according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the resilient element (39) is an open retaining ring.
7. Electronic door lock operating assembly (11) according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the engagement portion (15) of said mounting plate (9) comprises at least two engagement projections (19a, 19b, 21a, 21b, 23a, 23b, 25a, 25b) that, when the mounting plate (9) is secured to a door (1), project in a direction away from said door (1), and the engagement portion (33) of said base plate (31) comprises at least two engagement projections (35, 37) that, when said base plate (31) is mounted to said mounting plate (9), project in a direction towards said door (1).
8. Electronic door lock operating assembly (11) according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein said at least two engagement projections (35, 37, 19a, 19b, 21a, 21 b, 23a, 23b, 25a, 25b) of each of said engagement portions (33, 15) are L-shaped, as seen in a cross section.
9. Electronic door lock operating assembly (11) according to any one of the preceding claims, further comprising a retaining element cover (41) that is configured to cover the retaining element (39) in a mounted position.
10. Electronic door lock operating assembly (11 ) according to claim 9, wherein the retaining element cover (41) is attached to the retaining element (39), wherein the retaining element (39) and the retaining element cover (41) are configured to be mounted simultaneously.
