Abstract

Wallpaper tearer. Motorized device for perforating wallpaper. In connection with removal of multiple layers of old wallpaper, it is desirable when re-decorating and applying new wallpaper to be able to dissolve the wallpaper adhesive. The present patent relates to a wallpaper tearer by means of which scores are obtained through the old wallpaper. Water or moisture can subsequently be applied to the surface of the wallpaper. The multiple scores conduct the water/moisture through the wallpaper layers so that the wallpaper adhesive is dissolved. The wallpaper can subsequently be scraped off using simple hand tools. By means of an electric drill or the like, a base plate 2 is driven to which tearing members 1 are attached. The electric motor forces the tearing members 1 to rotate, both about the centre of the base plate 2 and about the axis 6 of the tearing members. The latter is effected by sharp protuberances 5 on the tearing members bearing against the wallpaper. This movement has the effect that the protuberances 5 are forced to move to varying extent relative to the wallpaper, depending on whether they are located close to the centre of the base plate 2 or at a greater distance therefrom. This relative movement produces a multiplicity of scores through 6-8 layers of old wallpaper. The wallpaper tearer lies parallel against the wall, essentially irrespective of the angle of the drive shaft 4 to the wall, since the motor unit 10,11,12 and the base plate 2 are connected by a cardan joint 3. <IMAGE>
