Abstract

1358549 Corrugating E W VAN DIJK 14 March 1973 [14 March 1972] 12353/73 Heading B3E A series of undercut corrugations are formed in sheet metal by moving towards each other two clamps on the sheet, while a former moves upwardly between them, so that the sheet is folded around the former to form an undercut corrugation. In the figure, clamps 2a, 2b and 3a, 3b have moved together from stops 6b, 6d to abut stop 5a, while a former 4b has moved upwardly between them to meet a descending counter-die 4a, so as to form a corrugation to the shape of the former. Stops 7b, 7d are then moved to the position shown, and the clamps withdrawn against them, as shown, opening the corrugation enough to allow the former to be withdrawn downwardly. The clamps are then moved towards one another again to reshape the corrugation. Stops 7b, 7d are then withdrawn, and the clamps released and returned to stops 6b, 6d, clamp member 3a rising sufficiently to allow the formed corrugation to pass beneath it as the sheet 1 advances to the right. If the material is sufficiently springy that the former may be pulled out of the corrugation without deforming it, opening and re-closing of the corrugation may be omitted.
