Abstract
1,092,423. Moulding dough. GENERAL MILLS Inc. Feb. 12, 1965 [Feb. 14, 1964 (2)], No. 6243/65. Heading B5A. Hollow cone-shaped bodies of edible dough are formed by cutting a double strip of tubular preform, about a core member if necessary, with blades at least some of which are blunt so that the layers of dough are pressed and sealed together during the cutting. In one embodiment, a double strip 36, 34 of dough is fed over rollers 102 to the bight between contra-rotating cutting-wheels 16, 18 which carry co-operating zig-zag blunt blades 22. Between the " V's " of these blades are located recesses 28 corresponding pairs of which co-operate as the wheels rotate to form cone or pyramid shaped cavities 28-28 which open alternately on one face and then the other of the wheels. In operation, moving fingers 52, carried by a pair of vertically disposed moving chains 46 located on opposite sides of the wheels, are inserted into the cavities so that as the wheels rotate the strips of dough are cut and sealed by the blades 22 and are formed into' hollow cones in recesses 28-28 about fingers 52 (see Fig. 8, not shown), the cones subsequently being removed from the fingers by a rotating brush 56. In a second embodiment (not shown) a tubular preform, made by bending a sheet of dough into a U- shape by suitable rolls and pressing it against a flat sheet by a third roll, is fed through guide neons to a cutting-wheel and a co-operating backing roller. The tube is cut diagonally by blunt blade portions 120b (see Fig. 10) and transversely at right-angles to its longitudinal axis by sharp blade portions 120a.
