The carton tray blank shown (Fig. 3) includes corner portions 15 which are joined to the ends of adjacent wall panels by fold lines 21, 22 and are each subdivided by further fold lines 16, 17 into a central sector 18 and two lateral sectors 19, 20. The tray is erected by folding the corner portions inwardly, and edge flap panels 27, 28 downwardly into a plane parallel to the bottom of the tray. The lateral sectors 19, 20 are sealed to the adjacent wall panels and connecting flaps 23 are folded over and sealed to the ends of the edge flaps 27, 28. During the latter operation, incisions 25, 26 cause the central sector 18 to be further subdivided into a middle portion 29 (Fig. 2) which is substantially perpendicular to the bottom and marginal portions 30 which are brought into contact with and may be sealed to the lateral sectors 19, 20. A cover 31 which may be of transparent foil (Fig. 1) has weakening lines 32, 33 which define a removable section 37, marginal strips 34, 35 and two tear-off tabs 36. The cover on its underside and the blank on its side corresponding to the interior of the tray has a fluid-tight coating, e.g. of a plastics material such as polypropylene. The cover and tray are secured together by the application of sealing stripes or by heat and pressure to fuse the coatings. The connecting flaps (23) may be joined to adjacent edge flaps 27, 28 by intermediate edge flap portions (50, 51), Fig. 4 (not shown), which are folded over and secured to the edge flaps, Figs. 5, 6 (not shown). The portions below the tearoff tabs 36 may be left unsealed to provide leaking gaps for generated vapours if the carton contains food and is heated. The cover may have on its underside a continuous incision line (56), Fig. 7 (not shown), which defines an inner tab (60) and only partially penetrates the cover and an incision line (57) defining a tab (58).
