Abstract

[Also in Division F1] A rotary positive-displacement hydraulic pump, or motor, comprises an externallytoothed member 12 meshing with an internallytoothed member 20 and defining therewith a plurality of working chambers 21a to 21g, the teeth of the member 20 being constituted by cylindrical rollers or vanes 17 lodged in recesses 18 of slightly greater diameter and lined with a material 27 having a coefficient of friction lower than that of the remainder of the member 20 so as to minimize friction when the rollers are revolved by the teeth of the member 12 during operation of the pump or motor, which involves either planetary rotation of one member relative to the other or rotation of one member about its own axis while the other member gyrates along a circular path about said axis without revolving about its own axis. The aforementioned material may be copper plating or a fluorocarbon resin such as P.T.F.E., fluorinated ethylene propylene, chlorotrifluoroethylene or polyvinylidene fluoride. The member 20 may be made of cast iron or sintered iron, which may be impregnated with plastics material, Fig. 3 (not shown), to render it impervious to the hydraulic working fluid e.g. oil. It is indicated that, owing to the recesses 18 being of slightly greater diameter than the rollers, a hydrodynamic film of the working fluid is formed between the rollers and the walls of the recesses, thereby effecting lubrication of the rollers.
