In a rotary sliding vane compressor, particularly for use in a refrigeration system, lubricant in the sump space 47, Fig. of a refrigerant gas chamber 16 connected through an opening 66 and a compressor discharge port 29, Fig. 2, with the working chamber 26 of the compressor, is injected under compressor discharge pressure through passages 46, 48 and grooves 49a, 49b into the working chamber at a point one vane space ahead of the position where the suction port 28 of the compressor is closed by the trailing vane of said space and where the pressure is substantially below discharge pressure. As shown, one vane is just closing the edge 28a of the suction port 28 and the vane ahead of this vane is just passing the point through which the lubricant is injected. This arrangement, prevents refrigerant gas released from the lubricantrefrigerant mixture from filling the suction space and reducing the capacity of the compressor. Lubricant also flows through clearances between the end faces of the rotor 25 and the adjacent end walls 22, 24 into the slots 38 beneath the vanes 36. As the rotor 25 rotates this lubricant is forced out of the slots through arcuate slots 55 to lubricate the bearings. The vanes 36 are diametrically arranged with a spring-loaded rod therebetween which passes through a bore in the rotor and the rotor shaft 34.
