Abstract
1,086,592. Chromatography column closure device. CESKOSLOVENSKA AKADEMIE VED. March 26, 1965 [April 13, 1964], No. 12891/65. Heading B1X. A device for compensating volumetric changes in chromatography column fillings comprises bracket 3 secured to fixed member 1 and having guide means to locate the bracket about closure 5 of the chromatography column 2, a clamp 4 attached to the closure below the guide means, lever means 14 at one end suspended from the bracket by pull rods 16 and at the other end attached to connecting rods 18 which engage with pins 17 on clamp 6, and spring 8 which bears on lever 14 and hence causes the urging of closure 5 into the column. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown), a U-shaped piece of resilient sheet metal (22) is used instead of the lever 14, and the action of spring (8) may be suppressed when desired by means of catches (28) suspended from toggle lever (30) operated by pusher member (32). In either form of apparatus the column filling may be reshuffled by vibration applied by means of an electromagnet (Fig. 4, not shown).
