Abstract
1,027,179. Knitting. M. NEBEL and E. NEBEL. Jan. 29, 1963 [Jan. 31, 1962], No. 3698/63. Headings D1C and D1K. When knitting ladder-resistant fabric, in one course (a) the thread is formed into stitches of small loop length by all needles and, in the next course (b), alternate needles form stitches of larger loop length, the intervening thread forming floats, the thread length of the course (b) being equal to or longer than that of course (a) so that the stitches of course (a) held in course (b) rob the adjacent stitches of course (a) of thread so that they form very small locking stitches in alternate wales, the locking stitches in the next course (a) being formed in the other wales. A stocking may be knitted of this fabric on a circular knitting machine. The course b with long stitches may be formed on the sinker hook Ph Fig. 5b, (not shown), the sinkers having been moved inwardly further and earlier than normal and course b may be formed in front of or behind the sinker hook. Otherwise the long course may be formed on a higher sinking point Pb behind the sinker hook, Fig. 5x (not shown). Alternatively, the difference in thread length may be produced by adjusting the needle cam. The stocking fabric may be knitted on a straight-bar machine.
