Abstract

971,668. Container bases. FIRESTONE TIRE & RUBBER CO. Oct. 17, 1962 [Oct. 23, 1961], No. 39258/62. Heading B8D. A resilient base 10, for a container with a domed bottom wall 18 and a rim 14 extending therefrom, comprises a bevelled top surface 30 for abutting the bottom wall and an outer surface 42 for compressibly fitting within the rim 14. The base 10 is annular and is made from rubber or similar material. The bevelled top 30 is bordered by a narrow flat surface 32 and has drain channels 36 open at top which align with drain holes 38 in the container rim. The inner and outer wall surfaces 40, 42, which are concentric, form the maximum inside and outside diameters and are joined by a flat bottom 44, with grooves 54 which serve as treads. The wall 42 has a peripheral groove 46 which interlocks with a stiffening band 24 on the rim leaving a clearance 48 to enable manual insertion and removal of the base.
