Abstract

Cutting blades e.g. razor blades are coated with polythene and heated in an oxygen-free atmosphere at 150 DEG C. to 500 DEG C. The polythene may be applied by dipping, spraying, flame-spraying or brushing with a dispersion or solution in an organic liquid. The oxygen-free atmosphere may be a reducing atmosphere (e.g. natural gas), an inert gas (e.g. nitrogen) or a vacuum. The polythene may be co-polymerized with a vinyl or acrymonomer, maleic anhydride or butadiene: or it may be mixed with another polyolefin or a polyvinyl resin. The blades may be degreased and pre-heated before coating.
