The invention relates to a hot work tool steel for hot forging, press hardening, die casting or hot extrusion. The steel comprises the following main components (in wt. %):C 0.5 - 0.9Si 0.03 - 0.8Mn 0.1 - 1.8Cr 4.0 - 6.6Mo 1.8 - 3.5V 1.0 - 2.3balance optional elements, iron and impurities.
